Light in the Sanità District

The documentary chronicles the profound metamorphosis of the Church of Santa Maria Maddalena ai Cristallini. Under the guidance of renowned street artists Mono Gonzales and Tono Cruz, the church’s interior is transformed into the “Blue Church”—a participatory masterpiece blending local faces with religious iconography.

Parallel to the murals, a symbolic journey unfolds: a migrant boat from Lampedusa is repurposed as the church’s altar. This process connects the University of Federico II with the inmates of Secondigliano prison, who craft the boat’s timber into both an altar and musical instruments. The narrative reaches its emotional peak when Sting plays a guitar made from this wood, embodying a message of hope, solidarity, and remembrance.
